Preparing for Admission
If you have enough time before admission and the additional admissions tests, you need to learn the basics of journalism, get published, and build up an impressive portfolio. This will help you in the interview as well as in the written part of the exam.
In our courses to prepare for admission to the journalism department, we not only learn how to write essays and answer questions at the interview, but also necessarily learn the basics of journalism, because at all stages of creative competitions at the entrance of your understanding of how to look for information and how to write journalistic material.
We recommend that you start by mastering journalism at a hobby level. Write posts for your page, take more photos and videos, learn how to process them and upload them to the Internet. You need Internet skills. That includes searching for information and posting content on the site. Take pictures and videos with your camera and cell phone. Learn how to add images, audio and video to your blog.
What to write about? Anything, but it is better to start with news notes, that is, briefly describe the events that happened. It can be, for example, a sporting event, the opening of a new business, a reporting meeting of an official, etc. A beginning journalist may find out about an event that is taking place or has taken place, and come uninvited (for example, after learning about an art exhibition). Or even write from a press release and other media reports.
Be sure to read the institution’s website for details on additional admissions tests. Taking good courses in journalism fundamentals or in preparation for journalism school is also a very good contribution to successful admission. Be persistent and you will succeed!
