Stories from the Four Corners: Empowering the Southwestern Perspective. UNITY will hold a town hall meeting on immigration in Phoenix followed by a media regional summit at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

After a diversity caucus in April 2015, the board of directors for UNITY decided to hold a series of regional media summits in areas around the country that historically have been ignored. The regional media summits are opportunities for UNITY to highlight issues around inequality and media access while engaging with journalists who may not have a chance to attend larger media conferences. Workshops include entrepreneurial journalism, social media training, building start-ups, Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) training, beat coverage and discussions around incoming inequality. UNITY also seeks to hold town hall meetings with local journalists of color for the community. Watch, as UNITY President Russell Contreras explains the importance of these summits:

UNITY: Journalists for Diversity in partnership with Loyola University has opened registration for an exciting media summit in Chicago at Loyola University’s Schreiber Center on October 21.
