UNITY: Journalists for Diversity is applauding the naming of Mi-Ai Parrish as the new publisher for The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com.
The longtime Asian American Journalists Association member was named publisher Friday. She had previously serves as a publisher in Kansas City, Mo., and Boise, Idaho, “where she gained a reputation for transforming and diversifying business operations and encouraging quality journalism,” the Arizona Republic reported.
UNITY President Russell Contreras said the appointment was encouraging and he applauded Gannett for its commitment to media diversity.
“We are happy with the Parrish appointment and pleased to see such a strong journalist of color in a leading position. UNITY looks forward to working with her,” Contreras said.
According to The Arizona Republic (http://goo.gl/16Ptpo), Parrish will report to Karen Ferguson Fuson, president of Gannett’s West and Interstate group. The group includes 23 of the company’s major news operations, including metro newspapers in Phoenix, Indianapolis, Louisville and Cincinnati.
