KUDOS & DARTS A log of who's promoting journalistic diversity and who's suppressing it » Kudos to the Newspaper Association of America for naming Jeanne Fox-Alston as its new VP of diversity. ""UNITY is pleased to see NAA bring on board somene who has demonstrated a long history of involvement in pushing for greater diversity in the news media," said UNITY President Ernest Sotomayor. "Jeanne knows our alliance associations well, and has long been a friend. As a covenant partner with the NAA, UNITY also looks forward to developing a strong relationship with the NAA in efforts to accelerate efforts to make the nation's newspapers more representative of our communities and ultimately to make journalism fair and accurate."
» Kudos to Knight Ridder and its Washington Bureau for
hiring Stephen Henderson as its U.S. Supreme
Court correspondent. Henderson, a veteran reporter and former
award-winning editorial writer for the Baltimore Sun, is believed
to be the first journalist of color to cover the court for a
major circulation news outlet. "While
UNITY applauds Knight Ridder, we remain disappointed that it
has taken so long for the Supreme Court press pool to reflect
the growing diversity in the nation and the court itself," UNITY
President Ernie Sotomayor recently wrote in a letter praising
Henderson's hiring.Back to top |
