In 2017, journalists are facing a new reality. News cycles are now dominated by attacks on the media as “fake news.” At the same time, journalists have a responsibility to refute the increase in inaccurate information, claims that in many cases harm minority communities.

UNITY hosted a timely conversation:“Is fake news pushing diversity off the agenda?”, with 60 fellow journalism leaders and innovators. UNITY convened its fourth annual Diversity Caucus on April 7 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Special guests included:

  • Carrie Budoff Brown, POLITICO editor
  • Simon Moya Smith, Culture Editor, Indian County Today Media Network
  • Michelle Lee, Washington Post Reporter, The Fact Checker
  • Farai Chideya, Shorenstein Fellow

Moderated by: Jill Geisler, Bill Plante Chair of Leadership and Media Integrity. Loyola University-Chicago.
